Origin

In 1976

French rights owners from the public and private sectors created an organization intended to protect and to manage cost-effectively vegetal variety rights. SICASOV : the "Société Coopérative d'Intérêt Agricole des Sélectionneurs Obtenteurs de Variétés Végétales" was born. It replaced the CGLV, "Caisse de Gestion des Licences Végétales" which was created in 1948.

The activity was limited to France in the early stages but eventually spread to every country where vegetal varieties are protected by law, or where patenting of biotechnology inventions exists.

Nowadays

SICASOV on French territory the majority of protected vegetal varieties meant for large-scale cultivation, produced under license. The company controls as well the rights of horticultural, fruit-growing, forest and flower species.

SICASOV has also developed an expertise in the field of patent transfers, regarding plants improvement and genetically modified organisms. The organization manages a large number of patent rights in Europe and worldwide. SICASOV operates especially in countries where there is no structure dedicated to such activities.
