Bread wheat : agreement on vegetal variety enhancement

France has been for a long time Europe’s leading seed producer thanks to the diversity of its soils and climate, the entrepreneurship of companies and its highly-skilled farmers. In order to cash in on such potential, France needs solid research on vegetal variety.

Variety creation is a highly-demanding activity requiring a long-term commitment. It takes more than 10 years to select a new variety, run tests, have it certified and produce sufficient amounts of seeds for farmers.

This is the reason why the agreement on bread wheat had become necessary so as to invest in research for the needs of 21 st century. By consolidating research this agreement permits cereal production to become more competitive and to adapt to tomorrow’s farming practices.
